At 20,038 words I hit the Wall!

You should have seen me. I was going strong. My fingers were tapping and pecking away at the keyboard. I even wrote a story outline and thought I’m going to breeze through the Nano challenge…AND THEN I HIT THE WALL! Not the writer’s block wall but the middle of the story the plot line isn’t working wall; I’m just not feeling it.

There comes a time when you have to step away from the computer to get some inspiration, creativity or whatever you need. Especially when you run into the wall.

 

This is Singer Island Beach. This picture was taken around sunset about a week ago. Sometimes I use the chairs on the beach others I bring my own.

So I’m scrapping the middle part of my story outline that I wrote which is frustrating. I’m going to Singer Island Beach at 4 pm and the next several hours with my notepad and the only music I will be listening to is the sounds of the waves to give me inspiration. I’m going to use this to rewrite the middle of my story and work my butt off to finish this Nano month challenge.

Is anyone else having some challenges, issues or mental blocks writing their novels? Let me know what methods you use to overcome them. For me it’s closing my personal computer, grabbing a note pad and finds a nice, relaxing spot in nature. I prefer parks and oceans.

Giving Courage To Your Writer’s Spirit

When I read this quote I knew it had share it will all of your for Let No One Steal Your Writer’s Joy Sunday. “I went for years not finishing anything. Because, of course, when you finish something you can be judged. I had pieces that were re-written so many times I suspect it was just a way of avoiding sending them out.” – Erica Jong

If Erica Jong is the queen of rewrite then I’m the princess. I have four rough drafts on manuscripts and one screen play. I have re-written that screenplay five times. I still keep thinking it’s not perfect. I can finally admit I’m scared. I’m petrified that someone will say it’s not good enough so I’ll keep on re-writing and re-writing continuing in this vicious cycle. So I won’t have to hear those words and be devastated.

Has anyone else felt like this? You’re not alone and this fabulous best selling author has felt the same way. She started out a newbie just like you and me and now look at her. If she can do so can we. We have to believe in ourselves because if we don’t than no one else will. Have faith, be strong, stay courageous, know that you are freaking awesome and the world is waiting to hear your story, poem, voice or whatever gift you have.

It’s time for me share my screenplay with the world.

Nano – Week One Down And Three To Go

Congrats everyone! We made it through the first week. As you already know I’m I started out a day behind but made pretty good progress. I’m at 9001 words. How is everyone else doing? I’m pretty much established a routine. I write for 1-1 ½ hours in the morning and evening. On my labtop I have this one song on repeat. I know my fiancé is probably so sick of this song but I really enjoying writing to it.

Has anyone seen the movie It’s Complicated with Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. The opening scene of the movie you hear this really great soft, groovy, Latin song.  The guitar playing is so beautiful. I love it and this is the song I write you.

Curious does anyone else listen to music while writing? Have you established a writing pattern or a good time to write that works for you?

It’s Easier To Tear A Person Down Than Help Them Up

This is my personal opinion and belief. It’s easier to tear a person down that help them up.  Positivity and support is nourishment for a writer. This is one of the reasons that I came up with Let No One Steal Your Writer’s Joy Sunday.

“You’re only a writer if you’re published and since you’re not published you’re not a writer.” I say BS and anybody who says this to you….run away. Go far, far away. All of us would love for our novels to be best sellers on the NY Times and USA Today.  To be published and have a paid career being full time writer.  I love this quote by Tom Clancy about what is success. Let me know if you agree.

Let’s Get Ready to Nanoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Nanowrimo began yesterday, November 1st. I’m one day behind. So I’m making up for the missed day yesterday for today. I’ve written 1,033 words and counting. I needed a little pick me up.

I love oatmeal cookies. Needed a little energy and an excuse to have a cookie ^-^

 

The book I’m writing about is my second in a romantic comedy among for friends. This is my first interracial story that I’ve written. It’s a bit challenging for me but I’m looking forward to facing it head on. Here’s the link to my profile on Nano (The Literary Newbie).
